This training is designed for clinicians seeking to deepen their understanding and application of trauma-informed care. Participants will explore culturally competent approaches to discussing trauma with clients and will gain confidence in assessing for trauma and dissociation. The session will also cover evidence-based interventions such as CPT and TF-CBT, equipping clinicians with practical tools for psychoeducation and treatment planning. This training is great for anyone who already has a foundational understanding of trauma and wants to expand their skill set!
Training Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate a stronger understanding of trauma-informed care principles, including how to integrate cultural competence into clinical practice.
- Confidently assess trauma and dissociation using tools such as the DES and PTSD scales.
- Apply core concepts of CPT and TF-CBT to clinical work and effectively deliver psychoeducation on trauma to clients.

Sherene Al-Turk, LCPC
Sherene Al-Turk is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Clinical Supervisor at AMK Counseling in Chicago, IL. Using a strengths based and trauma-informed approach, Sherene works with clients to challenge their perspectives and empower them to connect with values-aligned meaning and purpose. Her clinical experience includes helping clients across the lifespan with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, life transitions, comorbid conditions, and other stressor-related concerns. Sherene has specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
AMK Counseling has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7277. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. AMK Counseling is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
