The perinatal period (pregnancy through the first year of postpartum) is often filled with many emotions, challenges and transitions! Expecting parents & new (or new again) parents may encounter a wide range of mental health experiences during this time of immense physical, emotional and social change. This informative and interactive training will help lay the foundation for supporting therapy participants as they navigate family planning, pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
Participants will become familiar with key concepts that arise during the prenatal and postpartum period. This training will explore assessment skills and therapeutic approaches to treating perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) and other common clinical concerns. Clinicians of all levels and experience are welcome.
Training Objectives:
- Review common diagnoses and clinical themes encountered during the perinatal period.
- Explore assessment skills in order to improve conceptualization of a client’s cultural background, risk and protective factors, and holistic needs.
- Identify therapeutic approaches and skills to best support clients during and surrounding the perinatal period.
Presenters

Emily Kidd, EdS, LCPC
Emily Kidd is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and the Chief Executive Officer of AMK Counseling in Chicago, IL. Emily’s clinical experience and interests include working with clients who experience anxiety, depression, grief/loss, life transitions, identity development and relational concerns. She also has specialized training in Perinatal Mental Health and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). In addition to direct therapeutic work, Emily is passionate about providing clinical supervision and developing Continuing Education (CE) trainings for mental health professionals. Emily has worked as an Adjunct Professor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
AMK Counseling has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7277. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. AMK Counseling is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
