11am - 12pm (12 - 12:30pm, Optional debrief & reflective group conversation) CST
Live Virtual Training via Zoom
Supporting therapy participants during their perinatal period can be incredibly meaningful work. This period of time can also be filled with significant hardships, grief, identity shifts and challenges. Whether navigating family planning, pregnancy, postpartum, reproductive trauma, fertility treatment, or grief / loss – therapy can be an effective and safe space to process all of the emotions that arise during this phase of life.
Holding space for these conversations may elicit complex emotions for many clinicians. As therapists, our own lived experiences and identities will inevitably shape our work with therapy participants. This training is designed to help clinicians feel more confident recognizing and managing countertransference that may arise when working with perinatal populations. Join us as we explore strategies for promoting clinician wellness while ensuring high quality clinical care.
Note - this informative training will have some opportunities for reflection and discussion throughout. For those who are interested in more space to reflect and process any personal reactions to the content, there will be an optional space for a guided debrief following the training from 12 - 12:30pm. This reflective space is complimentary and is not included in the CE credits for the training.
Training Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Define and identify countertransference & transference as it relates to perinatal counseling.
- Explore common themes and challenges that clinicians may encounter when working with perinatal therapy participants.
- Examine the role of therapist self-disclosure and boundaries.
- Discuss strategies for managing countertransference in order to promote wellness for therapy participants and clinicians
